Originally from Birmingham in the West Midlands, Dom Glynn has been plying his trade as a London musician and singer-songwriter for 10 years now and ‘This Fast Life Is Killing Me’ is his second studio album after his debut ‘Song and Dance Man’ in 2025. That one was recorded with an earlier, very different version of the band with Dr Duncan Menzies on fiddle and Carmen Ruiz Vicente on drums along with Jack Trouble who still remains on bass guitar.
These days the fiddle has been replaced by Laurence Kingston’s energetic electric guitar with Roman Xavier also featuring on drums giving a very different sound. The 2025 album ‘At Green Note (Live)’ gave us our first recorded taste of this version of the band and provided 8 songs that appeared on that debut album, as well as 5 more that now appear on this one.
‘This Fast Life Is Killing Me’ is a compact number at a little over 22 and a half minutes long, despite there being 10 songs – the average length of The Beatles songs were 2 mins 45 seconds to 3 minutes so I guess Dom’s in good company!
Dom’s songwriting style is inspired by old school country greats like Johnny Cash while he takes acoustic guitar fingerpicking inspiration from the likes of Mississippi John Hurt and Doc Watson. Songs like ‘If She’s An Angel Straight From Heaven (Then I’m A Devil Straight From Hell)’ and ‘Mr Clean and Mr Mean’ show Dom’s upbeat fun side to his two-steppin’, toe tapping honky tonk whilst ‘This Fast Life Is Killing Me’, ‘I Just Can’t Seem To Stay Sober’ and ‘I Loved You, Cigarettes’ give us a satirical view of life as a young musician.
Telecaster wizard Laurence’s fun electric guitar always keeps the tempo up alongside Dom’s own acoustic and electric guitars whilst Jack Trouble remains the heartbeat of the band on bass. Another album from Dom and his band that will have you up and dancing with a smile on your face and cements Dom’s place as one of the UK’s foremost original male country artists.
Dom and the band head out to Europe next week for shows across Belgium, Germany and The Netherlands before returning for UK shows in late October and November – always a fun night so book your tickets if they’re anywhere near you.
