I’m sure that, like myself, one of the things that appeals most to you about country music is its storytelling. Bobby Gentry’s “Ode To Billie Jo”, Miranda Lambert’s “The House that Built Me”, Dolly’s “Coat of Many Colors” are in my mind three of the best. I could list many more too. And when the story is based on historic facts I love it even more.
Enter two of Nashville’s most highly regarded contemporary singer/songwriters Erin Enderlin and Cheley Tackett, who have collaborated on Erin’s recently release single “The Ballad of Delia Green” which tells the tale of the titular Delia , a fourteen year old African-American murder victim shot on Christmas Eve 1900. She died the following day but Erin and Cheley ensure she gets revenge from beyond the grave…..
I won’t give any more away regarding her short life and untimely death, which has previously inspired several well-known traditional American songs, you’ll need to listen to the release yourself (Erin on lead vocals/acoustic guitar, and Jenee Fleenor on fiddle) via the link below.
As Erin says, ” It’s Halloween season and there’s nothing scarier than the dark heart of a love gone wrong”.
Be warned!!
