BY LESLEY HASTINGS
Heralding an era of new music from the multi-award winning star, Carly Pearce has today released her new single “Dream Come True” via Big Machine Label.
Having already proven herself to be an artist unafraid to wear her heart on her sleeve, this is another very honest and moving co-write (alongside Tofer Brown, Lauren Hungate and Emily Weisband) delivered with the emotional rawness that Carly’s vocals seem made for. It sees her reflecting on the sacrifices that have been necessary and that she continues to make, in order to chase her dream of success in the country music industry, sacrifices that no one warns you about at the start.
The highs and lows along the way have had an impact not only on herself but also her loved ones, Carly having to miss key events in their lives due to commitments, and there’s the telling line “Every plaque on the wall is a broken heart“.
The hard truth of the ruthless industry is highlighted in particular in the chorus, and you can hear the frustration and bitterness in Carly’s vocal delivery as we hear how “nobody loves you for you, nobody calls you when you lose your shine”.
But it’s no doubt the song’s last few lines which tear at the heart strings the most, with Carly acknowledging the part her mother has played in her success and the fact that she “worked my whole damn life to make this dream come true”.
Carly also co-produced the track (with Ben West) which both begins and ends with a simple acoustic guitar accompaniment, augmented in the middle with a subtle fuller arrangement including evocative fiddle playing (Jenee Fleenor) beautiful keyboards (Dave Cohen) and electric/steel guitar courtesy of Nathan Dugger.
Although this is a deeply personal track, it will no doubt resonate much more widely with Carly saying on her instagram feed she hopes that “if you’ve ever felt that push and pull, know you’re not alone”.
