Last week was definitely “one for the books“ for rising country artist, Nashville – based Josh Ross. Not only did he release his latest single “Movin’ On“ (more about that later!) but Luke Bryan also presented him with his first CMA, the Jeff Walker Global Country Artist Award, recognising the native Canadian’s achievements as an artist originally based internationally. What a great surprise and honour for him mid-interview on the red carpet I’m sure.

The past year has seen Josh continue to make waves in the industry and winning new fans with releases including “Single Again” which continues to climb at US Country Radio.  Taking home the CCMA Entertainer of the Year award,  2024 also saw Josh headlining his first US tour and of course he joined Bailey Zimmerman on his UK dates as well as performing at Highways Festival at the iconic Royal Albert Hall  (read our backstage interview here https://countrylowdown.com/2024/05/22/interview-with-josh-ross/).

When it comes to the new single, “Movin’ On“ has apparently already connected with fans when performed live with its highly relatable subject matter. The end of a relationship sees the tables being turned….Josh is addressing his ex who ended things, telling the world he was “nowhere bound“, but he’s since found love with a “nothing-like-you girl out on the town“ and she’s the one struggling to move on.

Penned by Josh alongside Chris LaCorte, Jacob HackworthJaxon Free and Taylor Phillips, the Matt Geroux produced track has a more gentle groove and laid back vibe than a lot of his previous music. I love that this helps focus the listener’s attention on the lyrics, and wow there’s so many great lines!

Talking about the track, he says

“Movin’ On” was inspired by those relationships where one person decides to call it off but struggles to truly let go and move forward…I feel like this one shares a different side of me lyrically and sonically“.

Josh shows no signs of slowing down next year, either, as it’s already been announced that he will be joining Jelly Roll on the “ Beautifully Broken Great Northern Tour” across Canada in March. Let’s hope it’s a year that sees him return to the UK too!
