Performs at ACM Honors Wednesday Before Kicking Off Run As Direct Support for Lainey Wilson Thursday |
In a thrilling lead-up to the September 6th release of his new album On The Back of My Dreams, Jackson Dean today kicks off a big week with the launch of his new single “Heavens To Betsy” at Country radio. Today the fan-favorite live show stand-out enters a new phase of its evolution and became the Most Added song of the week with 68 stations adding the soul-stirring track upon its impact. On Wednesday, Dean will perform a special tribute to Glen Campbell in support of ACM Lifting Lives at the ACM Honors (airing Tuesday, September 24) before kicking off his run as direct support for Lainey Wilson on the Country Is Cool Again tour on Thursday in Prescott, AZ. |
Only ever planning to share the live versions of the track (one from his Live From The Ryman album and another from his Apple Music Sessions), upon seeing the fierce reaction and way it has impacted people in such a cathartic way, Dean worked with his bandmates, some of Nashville’s best musicians and his producer, Luke Dick to create a studio version of the heart-wrenching song, written by Dean, Benjy Davis, and Driver Williams. Released earlier this month with the announcement of his forthcoming album, “Heavens To Betsy” marks Dean’s third radio single, following Dean’s Top 10 sophomore single “Fearless” and his history-making No. 1 debut single “Don’t Come Lookin’,” (both) from his debut album Greenbroke. “I often create music with the hope that my songs get people thinking in some way or another but with ‘Betsy,’ it’s the listeners that have flipped it back around on me. Hearing stories of how much ’Betsy’ has affected people has impacted me in ways I could have never expected and I want to thank the fans as well as the many folks at radio (who have been asking for it) for your faith in this song. It’s because of you that it made it into the studio and now on Country radio,” said Jackson Dean. “I hope this song is able to reach those who need it, heal many more hearts and inspire the ones that did the breaking to fix it while they can.” “Heavens to Betsy” was written when Dean (at just 19 years old) heard the minced oath “heavens to Betsy!” for the first time and was struck with a flash image of an image of a man sitting on the outskirts of heaven, trying to communicate with his daughter via a CB radio. Taking listeners on the emotional journey of a man finally addressing the things he once couldn’t bear to face, Dean places himself in the shoes of a regret-filled man attempting to send a transmission from the beyond to right the wrongs of his past and seek redemption with his daughter. “Heavens To Betsy” serves as the center point as well as first single from Dean’s forthcoming album, On The Back of My Dreams, set for release on September 6 via Big Machine Records. The 13-track album unfolds the narrative of a man dreaming of truly living—and truly living that dream, with “Heavens To Betsy” highlighting the consequences of neglecting that ideology. Each song acts as a vignette of life that explores themes of freedom, solace, pain, youth, mortality, and the things that haunt and creep into our subconscious. Dean truly honed his craft for the new project, playing with turn of phrases, biblical references, soaring guitars and blink-and-you-might-miss subliminal messages while constructing big transcendental, swelling songs that demand equally bone-shaking vocals. The impressive and bold new chapter finds Dean delivering a project that is striking, distinctive and stimulating, with both swagger and intellect. |

“The title can be interpreted from a few different angles but the face value of that phrase is that in-between state, when you’re in the process of waking up, but reality hasn’t quite set in and each song on this project has a little bit of that magical surreal feeling…its drawn from a lyric in the song ‘Jane,’ this kind of otherworldly, misty or ethereal tune that immediately embedded into my brain,” added Dean. “I’ve intentionally lived a lot of life and have watched a lot of life be lived and each of these songs were written from a single frame of life, almost as vignettes, drawn from daydreams, nightmares and everything in between.” |
What critics are saying about “Heavens To Betsy”: |
“’Heavens To Betsy’ has not only been met with amped excitement from his fans, but unbridled enthusiasm from radio execs who have been clamoring for the song since its debut during his radio tour.” –Today’s Country Magazine “Jackson Dean turned an outdated, old-lady cliché, ‘Heavens to Betsy,’ into a dark, timeless story about a young girl and her father’s quest for forgiveness… It’s a sonic cliffhanger, mirroring the dramatic uncertainty in the ‘Betsy’ plot. It’s a twist that, unlike fashion or language, rarely grows old.” –Billboard “Building strong connection through philosophical characters has been a trait of Jackson Dean’s over these past few releases, endearingly holding the listener within the similarities to their own shortcomings and effectively opening internal dialogs that carry the ability to shift the direction of their life’s path toward the straight and narrow.” –Today’s Country Magazine “‘Heavens To Betsy,’ is nothing short of a masterpiece and a testament to his exceptional storytelling ability…The studio version of ‘Heavens To Betsy’ enhances the live recording’s emotional intensity, adding layers of instrumentation and production that deepen the listener’s engagement with the song’s themes.” –All Country News “We’ve been waiting for this song to drop…and it’s finally here!” –Your Georgia Country “…a song that fans are already familiar and deeply enamored with.” – Holler “The blend of nostalgic imagery and personal revelations creates a compelling reflection on loss and the desire for redemption.” –Songtell |

ABOUT JACKSON DEAN: One of Nashville’s most intriguing artists with his strong gravel-toned vocals, wayward spirit, intentional songwriting and overall mystique, the fast-rising singer/songwriter Jackson Dean is quickly earning a reputation for his impressive live show and thought-provoking, lyric-driven music. The young talent burst on the scene in 2022, showing people how real music can be with his atmospheric, musically-forward debut album Greenbroke that featured his debut single, “Don’t Come Lookin’” (which became the fastest debut to reach No. 1 in 2022 and cemented Jackson as the youngest solo male Country artist to reach the top of the charts with a debut) and his Top 10 follow up single “Fearless (The Echo).” The demand for Jackson skyrocketed after landing on Pandora’s Ten for 2023 (all genre), Spotify’s Hot Country Artists to Watch 2023, Apple Music’s Country Risers, the CMT Listen Up class of 2023, CRS New Faces 2023, Amazon Music’s 2023 Breakthrough Artists to Watch: Country Class as well as a slew of other artist to watch lists and nominations. A vocalist who truly thrives on stage (as evident in his Live From The Ryman album), the Maryland native has leaned hard into touring, wowing audiences and building a passionate fanbase that connects on a deeper level. Because of that connection and crowd passion, his live show stand out “Heavens to Betsy” has evolved to become his latest single—and lead track from his forthcoming sophomore album On The Back Of My Dreams, arriving September 6 (via Big Machine Records). Beginning an impressive and bold new chapter, the 23-year-old old soul is set to deliver a textured, experiential body of work, that is layered in meanings, giving listeners plenty to ruminate on. Each song, born from a daydream vision, together takes you on an emotional journey and completes the concept of the album: Jackson Dean is a man dreaming of truly living—and truly living that dream. The multi-instrumentalist and skilled artisan whose pastimes include making leather goods, wood-burned art and disappearing into the woods to sleep under the stars, brings a sense of adventure to his craft. Constructing big transcendental, swelling songs that demand an equally bone-shaking vocal performance, across On The Back Of My Dreams, Dean delivers an aspirational and captivating vocal performance that is striking, distinctive and stimulating, with both swagger and intellect. Following an early career of local performances in his hometown, Jackson has joined bills with superstar acts like Toby Keith, Miranda Lambert, Brantley Gilbert, Kane Brown, Jake Owen, Brooks & Dunn, Lee Brice, HARDY and Brothers Osborne and found himself on the bill for credible events like Austin City Limits and Stagecoach. The young talent recently wrapped big tours with Eric Church, Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, and Jon Pardi as well as his first headlining tour (Head Full of Noise Tour) and is going on tour with Miranda Lambert and Lainey Wilson this summer. |
