Gina Larner is undoubtedly one of the breakout artists on the UK country music scene in recent months, with upcoming appearances at the Long Road Festival and The British Country Music Festival, as well as supporting James Blunt in Dubai in just a couple of weeks.
In 2023, Gina released her debut album ‘Something Good’, an album that made an immediate impact, seeing the Brighton based artist gain a nomination for ‘Best Album’ at the British Country Music awards. And 2024 has started with a bang, releasing the wonderful ‘One Way or Another’ back in February and new single ‘Sin’ just last week.
‘Sin‘ has a fantastic energy and attitude throughout, a song that is essentially about dealing with a breakup with a ‘you’ve lost out, not me’ attitude. Lyrics such as ‘I’ll grab my heels and I’m turning off my phone, tonight I don’t wanna love ya, I might sin a little, and I might not make it home’ paint a brilliant picture of that mindset.
Gina Larner – ‘It was written after a night out, to be honest… I thought, ‘I can’t be the only one that has night’s out descend into chaos, often through my own doing … what a hell of an idea for a song. Although I knew it had to be a breakup song, it didn’t have to be a sad break up song. Some of the best breakup songs I listened to growing up were ‘So What’ (P!nk) and ‘Smile’ (Lily Allen)… they had an F – you attitude, and were brilliant story tellers. I’ve definitely tried to bring that into my songwriting, and the video!’
The accompanying video (above) is set in the singer’s hometown and was directed by Ella Berrie. ‘I’ve always wanted to film a video in Brighton. I’m so proud of it, and I wanted to get as many pieces as possible’ states Gina. The video features Brighton landmarks such as The Pavilion, Kissing Policemen, as well as grass root venue The Prince Albert.
Gina Larner has built a great reputation on the live circuit, with her zestful and effervescent performances, and ‘Sin’ is the perfect release to show off her art in all it’s glory. This is a ‘turn It up loud’ song that that you might want to aim at any ex. An on-fire release from Gina Larner.
