Announces Upcoming ‘Sweet Revolution‘ Album
Americana Music Association UK award-winner Hannah White, one of the most talked-about artists on the roots music scene, will release the powerful ‘Chains Of Ours’ on September 1 as the first single from her highly-anticipated new album Sweet Revolution. The full-length will arrive in November, after the much-loved London-based singer-songwriter has won even more admirers as special guest on Paul Carrack’s UK tour.
At the AMA UK Awards in London in January, Hannah’s win with the moving and highly personal ‘Car Crash’ as UK Song of the Year was one of the most warmly-received of the night. The album it came from, last year’s About Time, was praised far and wide, at home and abroad. “The restraint, the range, the softness, the clarity, the levels…a masterpiece,” wrote W21 Music. But even on that memorable awards night, she was already well into the making of Sweet Revolution, working with a special group of collaborators including husband and guitarist Keiron Marshall and producer Michele Stodart of the Magic Numbers.
‘Chains Of Ours,’ which has already become a firm favourite and fixture of White’s live set, is the first taste of another bold new venture by a restless creative spirit. Sweet Revolution is anything but a push-button re-run of past achievements, and as a preview, the single’s excitingly live feel and propulsive, percussive mood already have early listeners comparing it to a modern-day Fleetwood Mac.
With its brooding, atmospheric intro, pin-sharp lyrics and memorable chorus, ‘Chains Of Ours’ is informed, as are many of Hannah’s songs, by the realities of being a woman in the modern world. “When doors keep closing before me, it’s about trying to have a voice but still needing permission from the gatekeepers” she says.
After a run of successful shows including Black Deer Festival and performances on no fewer than five stages at Glastonbury, Hannah continues festival season at such events as Voss Festival in Norway, Folk In The Park and The Long Road. She then opens for Paul Carrack across the UK from September 22.
