22-Year-Old Georgia Songwriter Joins Big Machine Label Group;
Debuts First Music 5/20
“Can’t Nobody” Introduces Her As a SiriusXM Highway Find
Big Machine Label Group Chairman, CEO and Founder Scott Borchetta announces today the signing of Mackenzie Carpenter to The Valory Music Co. imprint. The 22-year-old Georgia native becomes part of the BMLG family, dedicated to signing and elevating the most creative voices in contemporary music with artists such as Tim McGraw, Thomas Rhett, Lady A, Carly Pearce, Sheryl Crow, Brantley Gilbert and Brett Young.
“In today’s world,” Borchetta says, “it is extremely rare to find a voice – as a songwriter or a vocalist – that is truly unique. Not only is Mackenzie both a completely original writer, capturing the experience of being a young woman from an authentic place, her voice is immediately recognizable. But even more uncommon is the mystery around her: where everyone is everything on social media, Mackenzie was a mystery who required actual seeking out. We are so proud to welcome her into the BMLG family.”
“I’ve always been all about the music and writing,” says Carpenter. “My dad told me if I was going to do this, I needed to write the songs before anything else could happen. So, I’ve been really focused on that, on trying to be the most true I could be to who I am…”
“Scott, Allison, George and the team at BMLG really got to know me, so they understand my vision,” says Carpenter. “Partnering with them is more than a dream come true.”
While attending Belmont University, Carpenter immersed herself in the Nashville songwriting community which led to her co-writing Lily Rose’s stunning breakthrough “Villain.” She is building a fanbase online and on the road having already opened for Parker McCollum, Craig Campbell, Ryan Hurd, and fellow The Valory Music Co. labelmate Conner Smith.
To launch Valory’s newest signing and build on the enthusiasm Carpenter’s music has created, SiriusXM announced that Carpenter has been deemed its next much-coveted “Highway Find’. SiriusXM’s Senior Director of Programming JR Schumann first debuted “Can’t Nobody” this morning on SiriusXM The Highway’s The Storme Warren Show (Channel 56). The whispery slice of teasing country heartbreak compares and contrasts the best of life with the one who just walked away with her heart. The song becomes available on all streaming platforms this Friday, May 20.
“You have a masterpiece with this song,” Schumann explains. “It’s very similar to Carly Pearce and ‘Every Little Thing.’ I don’t exactly know what this is, in the same way, but you know [when you hear it] it’s going to be important. It feels big and draws you in… and then it overdelivers. Her voice, then the song; by the time you get to the hook, you know it’s a smash.”
“Mackenzie’s take on life, faith, love, and everything in between rings with such an originality, we couldn’t wait for people to hear her music,” Borchetta says. “I think ‘Can’t Nobody’ is the perfect introduction to someone who I believe is going to be the voice of a lot of young women who are coming into their own right now. She’s a realist, but she’s hopeful. She’s strong, but she’s got a joy for living. Just listen to how she’s written about having her heart broken…”
