I’m a lapsed Country Fan, in my days it was Country and Western and somehow when they dropped the Western, I fell out too apart from a little forrage into the late Toby Keith and Garth Brooks and who of us oldies doesn’t like Dolly Parton?
However, I’ve been asked to review a completely new artist, to me; that is, I understand she has a very large following and it could be after this she has one more.
Kacey Musgraves :
‘Uncertain, TX’ from Kacey’s new album ‘Middle of Nowhere’, was chosen for my journey back way-out-west mainly because of my love of Willie Nelson who I’ve never deserted.
I loved the lyrics which I believe she co-wrote with Daniel Tashian (sorry don’t know of him either!) as I do love a song with a story although it amazes me how so many gorgeous, talented Country women manage to lose their men.
Be that as it may, she starts off as ‘uncertain’ as to how the hell she is in the ‘abandoned woman Club’ now but she certainly makes up her mind and becomes quite certain of the “Snake Charming Bullshitting, Heartbreakin’, God Forsaken, Dumb Ass Mind” did she leave the word ‘male’ out of the Dumb Ass bit?
I was a little disappointed that Willie Nelson having been named as a duettist had such a small, almost indistinguishable part, I had to play it several times before I realised he was singing behind her, not actually duetting with her.
To sum up, I loved the lyrics, loved the catchy tune and her voice isn’t bad either, yep, might keep my eye on her!
