Philippa Hanna is an acclaimed British singer-songwriter, based in Sheffield, UK.
Since her 2007 debut album, Watching Me, Philippa has released several studio albums, an EP and a live DVD, and published two autobiographical books. As one of the most sought-after acoustic performers in the UK, she has opened tours for acts including Lionel Richie, Anastacia, Leona Lewis, Wet Wet Wet and Collabro.
Born into a musical family, Philippa knew from an early age that making music was all she wanted to do. Her music frequently draws upon her experiences of a turbulent youth, and the Christian faith she found in 2004. She aims to offer a positive message for fans: Songs like I Am Amazing and Raggedy Doll have seen Philippa champion self-esteem in young people. She also works as an advocate for children’s charity Compassion International.
Her latest album Come Back Fighting, which was released on 24 November 2017, takes Philippa back to her country roots with songs such as Off The Wagon drawing comparisons with the likes of Dolly Parton. She said in an interview that: “It’s a personal album, born of setbacks and triumphs. It has been made to encourage people knocked down by life, to help them get back up from rejections and disappointments.”
Packed with punchy, hook-filled songs, Come Back Fighting ends with two cover versions that close out the album. The uplifting ‘I Saw the Light’ by Hank Williams, and the delicately delivered ‘Always on my Mind’ by Willie Nelson, (also covered by Elvis Presley).
In 2018, Philippa performed a headline UK tour with Marshall Arts Promotions followed by performances at Spring Harvest, Big Church Day Out, Buckle & Boots Festival, Kingstock Festival, Castell Roc and Creationfest. Philippa has recently become a viral internet sensation with her song ‘Perfect Grace’, a worship adaptation of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’, hitting millions of views and 100,000s of shares.
Having notched up over 1000 live performances in 25 countries over the past decade, Phillipa has demonstrated what can be achieved by independent artist with a little help from her fans.
