Described as having a cool modern sound with echoes of the past, Gary Quinn is an award winning singer/songwriter that knows how to pull on the heartstrings of his audiences. He grew up listening to Kris Kristofferson, then Garth Brooks helped him fall in love with the Country music of the 1990s.
Today, Gary is a 5 time British Country Music Association Award Winner including ‘Male Vocalist of the Year 2017’, ‘UK Songwriter of the Year’ and consecutive ‘Song of the Year’ honours, and still continues to win awards both at home and abroad.
Born and raised in Northern Ireland, Gary has become one of British Country Music’s more established performers. Citing U.S. Country artists such as Garth Brooks and Brad Paisley as influences, he has toured with Phil Vassar, and shared the stage with Kristian Bush, Sarah Darling, and Hall of Fame songwriter Bob DiPiero. He has also played support slots for touring US artists such as, Collin Raye, Larry Gatlin, Will Hoge, Aaron Watson, Wade Bowen and Gene Watson, to name just a few.
An accomplished performer, Gary is just as comfortable with a pen in his hand, and has recently collaborated with Grand Ole Opry member and Grammy winner Steve Wariner, as well as singer/songwriters Benita Hill, Jenn Bostic and Texas songwriter, David C Banning.
Gary is not only a great singer/songwriter, but an all round gentleman, as he is keen to help fellow artists within the Country genre, which is testament to his kind personality, and although he may not be a big star, he has a wealth of experience and is a leading light in the British Country music scene.
Having garnered international praise and an array of awards for his eponymous debut self-titled album, Gary teased the release of the single ‘Shame’ that was released in 2016, which went on to debut at no.7 in the UK iTunes Country chart. Setting the tone for the multi-award winner’s most personally insightful release entitled ‘I Remember’, which debuted at no.5 in the UK iTunes Country chart that same year.
Gary was also invited to Nashville in 2016, to appear on Phil Vassar’s ‘Songs From The Cellar’ TV show, which was recorded live from Phil’s home in Tennessee.
A regular performer at the Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival, he has performed alongside Nashville recording artists Carlene Carter, John Brannen and Nanci Griffith, as well as opening for a CMA Songwriter Series show that included Clint Black and Bill Anderson. Being no stranger to performing in Nashville, Gary has played the CMA Music Fest and the CMA Global Artist Party at the iconic venue ‘The Stage’ on Broadway.
Gary and his band have also performed at one of Europe’s most prestigious country festivals ‘Country2Country’ in London on numerous occasions, The Long Road Festival and Manchester’s ‘Buckle & Boots’, as well as festivals the length and breadth of the UK and Europe. In addition to his live appearances, he can be seen regularly on TV with his videos receiving airtime on regional and international TV programmes. His music still sees regular radio airplay on the BBC and many of the top country stations in the UK and around the world including, Country Road Radio, Chris Country, Downtown Radio, Nixa Country and 2Country Radio.
2018, saw the release of his latest album, The Lounge Sessions, which Gary told us here at the BCA, that: “My stand outs from that record would be ‘Warm Dark Of Night’ (co -written with Steve Wariner), ‘Crazy Idea’ or ‘Love and Lose’ (co-written with Jenn Bostic)”
Gary has started 2019 well, with his appearance at the Tamworth Music Festival in Australia, which is part of the Buckle and Boots tour. Gary is also Co – Founder of Glasgow’s ‘Country on the Clyde’ and the award winning Buckle and Boots Festival here in Manchester, which showcases the best of Country Music and offers a beautiful setting for festival goers.
