The next Artist of the Week, commencing 30 Sept 2018 for British Country Airplay is… Blue Genes
Blue Genes are a unique family band from North Wales whose sound reflects their Tennessean tastes and Celtic roots.
The trio consists of Mother (Kay), Father (Stephen) and their daughter Megan.
Although Blue Genes are relatively new to the U.K. Country and Americana scene their two more senior members are seasoned professionals with a long history in the music industry.
We first met Blue Genes at the Old School BBQ Bus this year and were humbled by their down to earth personalities, as their enthusiasm shone through their music, but most of all, their love of performing as a family.
Kay and Stephen now in their thirties have performed as duo Calon since the mid-90’s, touching on all genres of music including country. Kay’s roots lie firmly in country music and Stephen, the former blues man, has been happy to indulge her passion, growing to love the genre equally.
When their daughter Megan was born in 2003 the couple raised her very close to the stage and it soon became apparent that she shared not only their musical ability but their love of music.
Now at the tender age of 15, Megan is an accomplished musician and singer songwriter whose passion for country music is unrivalled, and with this in mind the family decided to form Blue Genes.
The last 3 years has been a rollercoaster ride for them, from performing at some of the U.K’s most prestigious country festivals to releasing their first single and debut EP “Small Town Rumours”, which soared in the country charts. They have supported international artists, writing for other artists, hearing their tracks on country radio and being a nominated finalist for band of the year at the U.K Country Radio Awards.
The bands most recent achievement was the success of their second 6 track EP ‘Named & Shamed’, which peaked at no. 1 in the British iTunes Country Chart.
Blue Genes are passionate about the American and UK country music scene and hope to bring a unique blend of contemporary country covers and self-penned material to audiences nationwide.
