There can be something quite special about a duet, especially when it’s in the country genre. Country music is almost made for them, with the two protagonists baring their hearts with their voices. This week sees the release of a new duet in the genre, featuring two standout artists from the UK scene – Mikki Evans and Gary Quinn.

The song is about a love that grows. What started out as a seemingly casual relationship, now seems to be a lot more, with both artists expressing how they feel. The song has a classic duet feel, with Mikki Evans voicing the first verse, before Gary Quinn takes over the vocals for the second. Then the two voices intertwine increasingly until they join together, this a delight due to the distinctive and easy on the ear quality of the vocals on show. The fact that this was a co-write between the two artists shines through, making the narrative a compelling and honest one.

Lyrics such as ‘This used to be nothing, so why’s it feel like something? My mind’s going crazy not knowing if I should say’ from Mikki and ‘I hear you tip-toeing, I sure hope youre not going, cause you’re the only one who’s made me feel this way’ from Gary paint a great picture of two people feeling it but not knowing if they should share their thoughts.

Working with Gary on this song has been an incredible experience. We wanted to create something fun yet meaningful, and I think ‘Mr Right Now’ captures that balance perfectly”, states Mikki, who is playing dates in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow as part of her ‘Watch Me’ tour in the coming weeks.

Gary Quinn, the recipient of multiple British Country Music Association awards states, “’Mr Right Now’ is a song about when two people go from a casual situation (Situationship some might say) to them realizing it’s a lot more – Mr Right Now becoming her Mr Right. Mikki’s energy was the perfect match for this song, and I’m excited for fans to hear what we’ve created.”

This October release is a perfect one to listen to in front of the fire as the nights begin to close in, a love story that has a real feel to it – a relationship that has grown naturally, without either side really expecting it. With a contemporary country feel, this collaboration is sure to hit playlist after playlist and further cement both the rapid rise of Mikki and Gary’s place at the top table of country on these shores.
