Speaking on Absolute Radio Country

Dolly Parton is set to co-host the 2023 Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards in Texas this Thursday 11th May, and speaking to Absolute Radio Country’s Jennie Longdon ahead of the event, the singer talked about how she’s readying herself for a very special performance at the awards.

“(It’s) a world exclusive from my rock ‘n’ roll album. The album’s called ‘Rock Star” and it’s a song about the times. To try and knock a little sense into our hearts and heads. It’s about what we can do to come together a little more, care a little more about each other and make this world a better place to live in until we blow it all to pieces.

“It’s called ‘The World’s on Fire’. It’s a big production number and we’re going to be doing a big production number. One of the biggest things I’ve ever done on stage – or the biggest thing I’ve ever done.”

Next year marks 50 years since “I Will Always Love You” was released, and Dolly said, “I can’t believe that song is 50 years old. I didn’t even know I was that old!”. On her iconic career, she marked, “I never imitated other people. I’ve always stayed on that road that I felt I was supposed to walk. I’m my own competition. I just try to do better and better.”

And on offering advice to new artists, she joked, “If you walk a mile in my shoes, you’ll never walk again!”, before continuing, “stay true to your talent and to yourself”.
