Since releasing her first album in 2012, Canadian born Whitney Rose has established herself as an exceptionally talented songwriter and performer. Now living in Austin, Texas her music definitely encompasses the honky tonk spirit of the lone star state while also being uniquely her own.
Her upcoming album “Rosie”, recorded at Austin’s Cedar Studios, will mark her sixth studio recording, being released in her own MCG Recordings label on May 19th.
Two tracks are available now, “My Own Jail” a mournful lament in which she likens the isolating, restricting situation she finds herself in to being in jail, while at the same time realising she is to blame .

“You’re Gonna Get Lonely” is a more uptempo track, in which she addresses her ex who walked out on her and his responsibilities. While she accepts that solo living can be appealing and have its benefits she warns him that he’ll regret his decision. But she won’t take him back “change your mind and bless your heart, it will be too late, you’re gonna get lonely”. I love the arrangement so much, especially the pedal steel, fiddle and honky tonk keys.
Known for her troubadour spirit and love of performing, Whitney will sadly be unable to tour the album for some time, as she is under doctor’s orders to rest following on from an illness that saw her hospitalised in recent months.
The release marks the end of her professional relationship with her husband and longtime manager who have worked tirelessly side by side for the last decade . Whitney says “We are both excited for Michael’s next ventures and will forever treasure the beautiful, sometimes tumultuous times we shared together in the music industry. I will always be grateful for the sacrifices he has made to turn my dreams into realities and for his support now as he proves daily that he wasn’t just saying ‘in sickness and in health’ – he meant it. He has called me ‘Rosie‘ for years now, hence the name of the record we have co-produced”.
I’m sure you’ll all join the Country Lowdown team in wishing Whitney a full and speedy recovery. Hopefully we’ll see you and your amazing band back over here before too long!
